If you are new to the world of 3D animation and perspectives, below is a brief outline of a typical work flow within a 3D project. In order to maintain clarity and consistency in our communication with your team, Off the Cuffe abides by a simple workflow procedure, which breaks the development process down into a series of milestones. Each of these milestones are completed and approved before we lead into the next stage of the project. Although this may vary from project to project, this linear workflow maintains confidence within yourselves that your project is running smoothly and that you are not left in the dark until the final hour of your deadline.
To get the ball rolling, we'll take all the information received and create the model based on this information. Usually this will be a base model where we can add extra details at a later stage to suit the intended views or animations.
We do prefer that the final designs are locked and loaded before we start this process. Conceptual sketches, reference images and CAD files are a great way to communicate your ideas.
Next, we implement the lighting to the scene or animations. Depending on what look is intended, we adjust the scene to suit. We use HDRI images to gain that special lighting feel. A bright sunny day, or dust pink sunset, HDRI mapping controls the real-world lighting effects that is intended for the final output. Next, we create the camera views. A pre-viz animation path is created to show the movement of the final animation, or a single view for a still perspective.
Materials to be applied from the selected material finishes or colour palette. Keep in mind, depending on the lighting setup of the scene, colours change depending on the light source, just like real-world scenario’s. Material tweaks occur within the scene to gain the best possible outcome for the final output files.
Once all modelling and materials have been concluded and approved, final rendering of the perspective or animations will occur. Any specific output size for marketing brochures or signage should be confirmed before rendering starts.
The post production stage and rendering is usually the most time consuming, as a single image (render) can take up to 10 hours to produce, due to the computers calculating the lighting effects/materials and modelling details. Animation single frames are optimised a little quicker, but the number of single frames used to create an animation can be up to 15000 frames, one second of animation is 25 frames. That's a lot of rendering to do.
